March 30, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Socio-cultural Community Sustainability: Implications for Transformational Change

Presented by Dr. Stephen Axon

Please join us Wednesday, March 30 at 6 pm in Room C101.

Dr. Stephen Axon is an Assistant Professor of Sustainability Science in the Department of the Environment, Geography and Marine Sciences at Southern Connecticut State University.

Dr. Axons research focuses on the socio-cultural dimensions of sustainability. Principally, his research investigates the challenges of making everyday life and the communities we live in more sustainable; and the application of interventions and “what works” approaches that facilitate and maintain inclusive, equitable, and participatory sustainable lifestyles.

This research aims to advance both conceptual understanding and practical application of enhancing the efficacy, form, and function, of public engagement and collective action as part of community-based sustainability. He largely teaches courses on conceptual, practical, and applied dimensions of sustainability, e.g. principles of sustainability, public engagement, and applied sustainability science.

Dr. Axon is the Graduate Program Coordinator for the MS Environmental Studies, the Co-Director of the Connecticut State University System Center for Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Education (CELSE), and Editor for The Northeastern Geographer.

Following Dr. Axon’s presentation there will be a question-and-answer period.

Thank you, and we hope you join us.
