The Counseling Center is a major resource for students adjusting to and navigating through college. The Center focuses on academic success and developing the necessary skills and understanding for students to navigate the system effectively. Incoming students meet with an advisor who assesses students Math and English placements based on multiple measures (high school or college transcripts, SATs or ACTs, TRCC placement test, and discussion with student). Students are prepared for their first semester at the college and equipped with the knowledge of important tools and tips to be successful.
Students are assigned permanent advisors (usually faculty in their field of study), during the first weeks of their initial semester. Students need to meet with this advisor prior to the start of their second semester and on a regular basis through out their time at Three Rivers. Advisor assignments can be found in MyComment under the Student Tab and also via the Welcome Center or Advising and Counseling Center. Contact information for assigned advisors is found in the Academics drop down menu on the home page, under Faculty. The Advising and Counseling Center is not able to make appointments for advisors.
Further into their tenure, students are supported with ongoing advising regarding the choice of courses or the selection and change of major. Student learning styles are also assessed to understand strengths and needs, and help students improve needed skills. Graduation audits are completed by assigned advisors as students prepare to complete their studies or transfer to another institution.
The Advising and Counseling Center advisors have specific assigned advisees and can serve as back up for faculty advisors when faculty are off campus.
For continuing students Services of the Center focus on:
- Academic Success
- College transfer
- Changing Majors
- Probation Advising
