Environmental Seminars Speaker – Dr. Hedley Freake

Dr. Hedley Freake

Dr. Freake is an emeritus Professor and was the Undergraduate Program
Coordinator in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Connecticut. Hedley
recently retired and continues to guest lecture. He has been very active in CLICK, a program
that helps people learn about gardening and growing local sustainable good wholesome
food in Willimantic.

Dr. Freake’s not currently active in laboratory research, his prior efforts used molecular
approaches to address questions of nutritional significance. One area focused on the
regulation of long chain fatty acid synthesis by hormones and diet, in particular thyroid
hormones and dietary carbohydrate.
