Comments:

Matthew Hightower, known by all as “Matt,” was a faculty member from 1985-1989 (part time) and from 1990-2010 (full time), when he unexpectedly passed away.

During those 25 years, Matt taught a variety of accounting classes including Principles of Accounting I, Principles of Accounting II, Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Federal Income Tax, and Accounting Computer Applications. Educating and mentoring his students was something he truly enjoyed, and he felt privileged to witness their journeys to success.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Matt was the Accounting Program Coordinator and Business Department Chair. He served on a variety of committees and chaired the academic division. he was proud to have been on the team that helped Three Rivers Community College become the first community college in Connecticut to receive the ACBSP Accreditation. As a practicing certified public accountant and owner of an accounting firm, Matt brought firsthand experience to the classroom weekly. He was active in the business community and was a member of AICPA. His colleagues, students, and business professionals views him as a leader.

Matt was a graduate of Mohegan Community College, earned his B.S. in Accounting from Post University, his M.B.A. from Baker College, and received his CPA in 1984. His career started at Mohegan Community College as an accounting student and finished at Three Rivers Community College as an accounting professor.

One of the humblest men you could have met, Matt never realized the example he set for all who had the pleasure of meeting him. Always putting others before himself was his primary concern, not only during his 25 years of service to Three Rivers, but in his personal life as well.
