Comments:

James Copeland’s science teaching career spans 42 years, 31 of them at Three Rivers. By the time James Copeland began teaching science for Mohegan Community College, he had already been teaching for 11 years at other colleges.

His TRCC career began at the Mohegan Community College that joined with Norwich Technical College to become Three Rivers Community College in 1992. His commitment to excellence in education is surpassed only by his extensive science knowledge and curriculum savvy. He worked closely with our sister community colleges to maintain uniformity among the science offerings, and was instrumental in creating Pathways to aid transfer students in biological and chemical degree programs decades before the current Board of Regents TAP programs.

Professor Copeland created custom-made lab manuals and textbooks. He employed many education strategies to connect with our diverse student population. Education TRCC students, adhering to the TRCC Mission, and maintaining the integrity and excellence of the Science Department were Professor Copeland’s primary concerns throughout his 31 years of service.
