MIGRANTS from third world countries will be barred from entering the US after an Afghan gunman killed a national guardswoman in a possible terror attack in DC.
President Donald Trump announced he would be cracking down on immigration following the shooting which killed 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom of the West Virginia National Guard.
Her colleague, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, is still in critical condition.
“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover,” Trump wrote in social media post which began with wishing the nation a “very happy Thanksgiving“.
He also threatened to reverse “millions” of admissions granted under his predecessor Joe Biden, and would “remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States.”
Trump also said he intends to end all federal benefits and subsidies for “noncitizens.”

He will additionally: “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization”.
It comes as Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries– her grieving father confirming the news in a heartwrenching Facebook post on Thursday.
“My baby girl has passed to glory. If I don’t talk to you don’t be offend[ed] this has been a horrible tragedy,” Gary Beckstrom wrote.
The White House confirmed that Trump spoke with Beckstrom’s parents Thursday night.
Beckstrom had been listed in critical condition after being shot in the chest and the head while standing guard in Washington, DC.
Trump sadly announced that she had passed away at the beginning of an event on Thursday speaking to troops to celebrate Thanksgiving.
He said, “I must unfortunately tell you… that Sarah Beckstrom of West Virginia… she’s just passed away.”
Trump called her a “magnificent person” who was “highly respected” and “outstanding in every way.”
“It’s horrible,” he said.
Terror investigation
The FBI has launched an international terror investigation as new details emerged about the alleged gunman, a 29-year-old Afghan national who had served with US troops in Afghanistan.
The suspected gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, had been living in the western state of Washington and had driven across the country to the nation’s capital.
Federal investigators have since executed two search warrants at Lakanwal’s home in Washington state and another in San Diego.
FBI Director Kash Patel told reporters on Thursday that officials seized several electronic devices from Lakanwal’s property in Washington state, including laptops and computers.
Patel also said the residents who were in the Washington state home at the time were interviewed by the FBI.
In what she called a “brazen and targeted” attack, the US attorney for Washington DC, Jeanine Pirro said the gunman opened fire with a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver on a group of guardsmen on patrol just a few blocks from the White House.
The suspect was charged with three counts of assault with intent to kill — charges that Pirro said would immediately be upgraded to first-degree murder if any of the guardsmen died.
Officials said they still had no clear understanding of the motive behind the shooting.
CIA director John Ratcliffe said the suspect had been part of a CIA-backed “partner force” fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan and had been brought to the US as part of a program to evacuate Afghans who had worked with the agency.
The heads of the FBI, CIA and Homeland Security and other senior Trump appointees said Lakanwal had been granted unvetted access to the US because of “lax asylum policies” from the botched Afghanistan withdrawal plan in 2021.
The Operation Allies Welcome allowed roughly 90,000 Afghans to obtain Special Immigration Visas under the Biden Administration.
But AfghanEvac, a group that helped resettle Afghans in the United States after the military withdrawal, said they undergo “some of the most extensive security vetting” of any migrants.
The group noted Lakanwal had been granted asylum in April 2025, under the Trump administration, and would be eligible to request permanent residency a year later.
“This individual’s isolated and violent act should not be used as an excuse to define or diminish an entire community,” said its president, Shawn VanDiver.
In the wake of Wednesday’s shooting, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced 500 more troops would deploy to Washington, bringing the total to 2,500.
Trump deployed troops to several cities, all run by Democrats, including Washington, Los Angeles and Memphis. The move has prompted multiple lawsuits and allegations of authoritarian overreach by the White House.
