Russia will “reconsider” its position in peace negotiations after accusing Ukraine of an attack on Putin’s residence

The Russian Government has accused Ukraine this Monday of launching an attack against a residence of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, in the Novgorod region during the last morning, which is why it will “reconsider” its position in the ongoing negotiations for a peace agreement with kyiv to end the invasion unleashed in February 2022.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that “the kyiv regime launched a terrorist attack on the night of December 28-29 using 91 long-range drones against a Russian presidential residence in the Novgorod region”, without giving details about possible victims or material damage.

Thus, he stated that “this action took place during intense negotiations between Russia and the United States to resolve the Ukrainian conflict” and stressed that “this type of reckless actions will not go unanswered,” according to the Russian news agency. Interfax.

“We have no intention of withdrawing from the negotiation process with the United States. However, given the final degeneration of the criminal regime in kyiv, which has turned towards a policy of state terrorism, Russia’s negotiating positions will be reviewed,” Lavrov said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said Monday that Russia sees Britain’s influence in what he called Ukraine’s latest “provocations” aimed at disrupting the peace process, state news agency TASS reported.

For its part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday dismissed Russian accusations that kyiv had tried to attack President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region as “another round of lies.”

He told reporters on WhatsApp that with such statements Russia was trying to undermine progress made in peace talks between Ukraine and the United States and that Moscow was preparing the ground to attack Ukrainian government buildings in kyiv.
