A public sector bank employee has alleged that her manager’s behaviour left her emotionally exhausted during pregnancy, saying she often cried at work as he repeatedly denied her leave, overburdened her with tasks and ignored her health concerns. Her detailed account, shared on Reddit, has now triggered a wider conversation about workplace conditions in government banks.

The complaint that set off a conversation

Posting from her Reddit handle on r/IndianWorkplace, the employee said her manager’s conduct became unbearable even as she tried to stay regular at work despite pregnancy-related complications.

“I work for a public sector bank and I am currently 28 weeks pregnant. I have been fairly regular to work since the start of my pregnancy. My first trimester was incredibly hard, and I had bouts of viral in which I got a fever of 103, and still I attended because I was the only staff in the branch as the other staff was on sabbatical and we hadn’t been given a replacement,” she wrote.

She shared screenshots showing how most of her leave requests were dismissed, even when she was in severe discomfort. According to her, the situation worsened after she discreetly raised concerns about certain ‘shady’ loans allegedly sanctioned by the manager.

“He has been harassing me mentally”

The employee claimed her manager turned hostile after sensing her whistleblowing attempt.”He got a whiff of my whistleblowing, I feel, and he has been harassing me mentally and using many tactics. I have hardly taken sick leave twice or thrice in the month when I absolutely have to due to exertion and nausea. He has been acting really vile, denying leaves, overburdening me with work, micromanaging, not even giving me time for lunch break,” she said. Also Read: How Salman Khan’s father, Salim Khan, balances his diet and stays fit at the age of 90 with simple habits, routine, and consistency
