A automobile production in factories installed in Portugal grew 4.3% in the first 11 months of the year, for a total of over 320 thousand cars. In November, however, there was a drop, compared to the same month last year.
According to ACAP data on car production and assembly, the sector recorded 320,282 cars produced between January and November. Compared to the same period last year, there is a gain of 4.3%, benefiting above all from an increase in passenger cars.
This is because 253,204 vehicles in that segment left the factories, which corresponds to an increase of 5.2%, compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, 64,210 light goods vehicles were manufactured (0.9% more than a year before) and 2,868 heavy vehicles (4.1% more).
Of these, 97.8% are destined for foreign markets. Germany continues to receive the largest volume of exports, with 19.5%. This is followed by Italy (11.6%), Türkiye (10.9%) and France (10.2%).
November numbers go against annual trend
In the month of November, there were very different variations. The industry recorded a cut in all three areas with emphasis, once again, on passenger cars.
Of the latter, production stood at 23,925, which means a drop of 8.4% compared to November of last year. At the same time, the factories put 6,102 light goods vehicles on wheels (2.6% less) and 224 heavy goods vehicles (0.4%).
Car assembly grows in November but falls in annual terms
With regard to the assembly of cars in the national territory, the sector continues to be limited to heavy vehicles. 247 were assembled between January and November, 14.5% less than in the same period last year.
A total of 231 units were exported. Germany received 81.8% of the volume, while the United Kingdom received the remainder (18.2%).
On the other hand, there was a increase of 33.3% in this context, in Novemberfor a total of 40 vehicles assembled.
