Sword Health announced this Monday, 24th, the technological management of the Greek SNS health line, which includes national telephone triage based on artificial intelligence (AI), supervised by clinical teams.
The Portuguese Sword Health, which operates in the provision of healthcare through AI, and the Greek Government established a national partnership “to create the first line of health information and national telephone triage based” on that technology, “supervised by clinical teams”, says the company in a statement.
“This line, built with the same principles as the Portuguese SNS 24 Line, will guide the healthcare of more than 10 million citizens, with guaranteed seasonal stability and very short service times, only possible through the articulation of certified artificial intelligence models and clinical teams”, says Sword.
The partnership will begin with the “transformation of the National Health Information Line (1566), the first point of contact for millions of citizens with doubts or the need to access the Greek National Health Service” and then, “based on the results obtained and the independent external evaluation, it will focus on the digital transformation of the Medical Emergency line (166), counterpart to the Urgent Patients’ Guidance Center (CODU) of the Portuguese INEM”, explains Sword.
By the end of next year, “both lines will be based on one of the most sophisticated artificial intelligence structures in the world”, highlights the technology.
By integrating AI “into triage and coordination processes, the Greek Government aims to expand its capacity, improve response times, and provide better support at the national level, as well as adding resilience to deal with sudden spikes in demand.”
The technology to be applied “was designed by Sword Intelligence, Sword Health’s AI care management division, to work with frontline professionals, freeing them from routine, high-volume tasks”, it is said.
“Health systems around the world are under enormous pressure: responsiveness is not keeping up with people’s needs and costs continue to rise for citizens. The only way to resolve this paradox – by removing barriers to accessing high-quality healthcare and, at the same time, reducing costs – is to use artificial intelligence to expand the capacity of existing clinical teams”, says the executive president (CEO) of Sword Health, Virgílio Bento, quoted in a statement.
“This is exactly the model that will determine the future of healthcare around the world” and “that is why I see with great enthusiasm Greece, a country that was a pioneer in so many things that define our current world, from democracy and philosophy to medicine and science, leading yet another transformation, with its innovative vision of using artificial intelligence to expand access to high-quality healthcare for the entire population”, adds the person in charge.
The CEO says he is certain that, “very soon”, there will be “many other countries” to replicate.

The initiative will be monitored by independent international entities that will work together with Sword Health and the Greek Ministry of Health, designing an implementation study that will analyze the system from conception to performance, in light of international data security, quality and privacy standards, while simultaneously evaluating its results and impacts for patients in Greece.
