The journalist Elisa Beni denounced this afternoon in X that elDiario.es has terminated his collaboration “after more than a decade of columns,” and attributes his “dismissal” to his comments on social networks “about the danger of failing or invalidating the magistrados of the Hall II for a course for public defenders”.
“The truth is that they gave something as news that in my opinion was not news. Probably, they did it to discredit the Supreme Court for issuing a sentence that they don’t like,” he stated in his tweet.

The journalist has defended that “this is not about her, but about not being able to say —not even out of the way— what you think” and has complained about “not being able to tweet or say anything that makes you uncomfortable to those from one place or another” when one is a collaborator in several media simultaneously.
Just as she has lamented that now what they intend is to “pass her off as a paid careerist, when the truth is that They try to strangle me to make me fold and do not disagree.”
The statement closed with some words of gratitude to Ignacio Escolarfounder and director of elDiario.es: “I do believe in ‘Journalism despite everything’ and I have been very free in that newspaper until the militancy of souls began to be demanded. Thank you @iescolar for allowing me to participate in what was once a fresh and exciting project.”
For its part, Ignacio Escolar responded to his X post “regretting his departure”, but maintaining that “I cannot allow that a columnist insults journalists from @eldiarioes and accused them of manipulating.
In this response he has included some screenshots of tweets and retweets that Elisa Beni had published in the last few hours.
Among the images you can find a publication by Beni in which he accuses of information “spurious” the news prepared by Elena Herreraa companion to the newspaper, in which it reported that “three Supreme Court judges who convicted the attorney general taught a course paid for by an accusation after the trial.”
The underlying court case
This entire conflict has erupted as a result of the condemns the former state attorney generalÁlvaro García Ortiz, dictated by the Supreme Court, and the role of some of its magistrates —specifically three— of the Second Chamber in courses organized by the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid (ICAM).
He ICAM was listed as one of the accusations in the case against García Ortiz, and certain sectors have questioned whether the participation of Supreme Court justices in training activities of the College could generate an appearance of lack of impartiality in the process.
The Supreme Court, however, has maintained the full validity of the sentence, and Beni’s thesis is that it is “training course for public defenders”which are part of the usual activity of legal training and do not, by themselves, constitute a cause of contamination or bias among judges.
