Through a note of condolence, the municipality also expressed its deepest regret at the death of António Oliveira, considered an unavoidable figure in the Portuguese industrial and business sector.
“Throughout his career, António Oliveira established himself as an example of rigor, dedication, responsibility and proximity, values that decisively marked the growth, innovation and projection of OLI, in Portugal and beyond its borders”says the municipality.

The president of OLI was decorated by the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with the Grand Cross of the Order of Business Merit – Class of Industrial Merit last July.
This distinction aimed to recognize António Oliveira’s exceptional career in the industrial and business sector, highlighting his contribution to national economic development, the promotion of innovation and the international projection of Portuguese industry.
António Oliveira’s career had previously been distinguished with the EY Entrepreneur of the Year – Innovation award (2021) and with a Special Award at the Exportation & Internationalization Awards (2024), for his transformative role in OLI’s leadership.
António Oliveira was also president of the General Council of the University of Aveiro between December 2021 and September 2025.
