Over the last four days, the GNR and PSP have arrested an average of 76 drivers per day for having too much alcohol in their blood, as part of more rigorous inspection operations due to the festive season.

According to statements from both law enforcement and public order forces, a total of 304 people have been arrested since December 18 for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 grams/liter of blood: 182 by the GNR and 122 by the PSP.

In its ‘Operation Christmas and New Year 2025/2026’, the GNR inspected 31,861 drivers, “of which, 326 were driving with excess alcohol and, of these, 182 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l. 60 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license.”

“Of the 5,073 road traffic offenses detected, the following stand out: 696 for speeding; 144 for excessive alcohol consumption; 122 for lack of or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems; 125 for improper use of a cell phone while driving; 691 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection; 219 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance”.

GNR soldiers verified 927 road accidents, resulting in three fatalities, 16 serious injuries and 232 minor injuries.

In urban areas, the PSP, with its ‘Operation Police Always Present – ​​Safe Parties 2025-2026’, made 295 arrests, 158 of which “for road crimes, namely 122 for driving while drunk and 36 for lack of legal driving license”.

“18 individuals were arrested for crimes against property (theft and robbery) and 22 suspects for drug trafficking, with 43,881 individual doses seized.

The same statement also describes the “seizure of six firearms, 17 bladed weapons, 69 ammunition and two other weapons, either as a precautionary measure or following the four arrests made for possession of a prohibited weapon” and that “6,676 pyrotechnic items were also seized”.

“Of the road traffic offenses detected, the following stand out: 215 for driving at excessive speed; 150 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection; 67 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance; 31 for improper use of a cell phone while driving; 26 for driving under the influence of alcohol; 13 for lack of or incorrect use of a seat belt and/or child restraint system”.

The PSP also recorded, in the last four days and in its area of ​​responsibility, “678 road accidents, resulting in 227 injuries (12 serious injuries and 215 minor injuries) and, regrettably, 1 fatality”.
