The Minister of National Defense, Nuno Melo, was present this Wednesday (10) evening at Cinema São Jorge, in Lisbon, for the official premiere of the documentary “Remember the 25th of November”. The film aims to revisit the decisive moments that marked democratic stabilization in Portugal.

The cinematographic work, lasting approximately 43 minutes, focuses on the events that followed the “Hot Summer” of 1975. The narrative follows the action of the group of moderate military personnel who, through the operations of the 25th of November, sought to put an end to the political instability of the time, contributing decisively to the consolidation of the achievements of the 25th of April 1974.

Produced by the Ministry of National Defense itself, the documentary is part of the Commission’s initiatives for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of November. To make the film, a partnership was established with RTP, which provided archive images from the time, allowing for a faithful historical reconstruction, according to a statement from MDN sent to DN.

Among the highlights of the documentary are the interviews with ten relevant personalities from Portuguese society. The main highlight is the testimony of General António Ramalho Eanes, former President of the Republic and central figure in the events portrayed, who analyzes the lasting impact of this date on Portuguese society.
