Close to Ukraine, the country leads a peaceful life and continues to export a large part of its goods to neighboring countries, including the one led by Volodymir Zelensky. And not even in the territories closest to the border is there turmoil or anguish: life goes on, calm and serene, in the hands of people who have already seen so much tragedy that they are not scared by another one.
A leader in nut production, Moldova is also a significant producer of sunflower oil and wine, a sector that has brought many curious people to the country. Just like the trails that, in the center of Moldova, attract nature lovers who, for days, follow the various previously marked routes with or without guides to accompany them.
Still trying to join the European Union, Moldova is a beautiful mirror of what most of the capitals of the Old Continent were like a few years ago: in the capital, life does not run at the pace of tourists – of which there are in moderate numbers – but rather at the pace of citizens going to work, school or their daily tasks. Affable and friendly, almost all citizens speak a language other than Moldovan, a dialect that comes from Romanian. French is easy to find – and the small French-inspired cafes are some of the most desirable places for breakfast or a rest with a book in the middle of the afternoon – and English, although shaky, is beginning to be a common language among the new generations.
