This Tuesday, a federal judge in New York has allowed declassify the documents related to the investigation of sex trafficking against Ghislaine Maxwellaccomplice and ex-girlfriend of pedophile Jeffrey Epsteinsentenced to 20 years in prison for helping the tycoon sexually abuse minors.
The ruling by Judge Paul Engelmayer opens the door for the publication of the evidence collected against Maxwell, including grand jury transcripts, financial records, travel documents and notes from interviews with victims obtained during the investigations.
Engelmayer bases his decision on the recent law approved—on November 18—by Congress, the Epstein Files Transparency Actwhich requires the Department to disclose unclassified documents related to the Epstein case within 30 days.
During the review process, documents will not be disclosed for the purpose of protect the identity of victims and other identifiable information, as detailed in the judge’s memo.
However, no details have yet been given regarding the release date of the files.
This event in the New York town occurs days after a Florida judge granted the Department’s request to release materials from a case that took place between 2005 and 2007 in relation to the pedophile’s alleged abuse at his mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.
With the support of Trump
Trumpinitially shelved the case after a report from the Department of Justice that stated that there was no “client list” that included the names of all the people involved in the parties organized by the magnate and in the child trafficking network.
At the same time, changed his position after it became clear that the bill had enough bipartisan support to pass with or without their support, as well as the release of a series of Epstein emails.
Specifically, the democrats of the Oversight and Government Reform Commission of the Lower House made public three correspondences between Epstein and his ex-partner in which the billionaire claimed that Trump “spent hours” at home with a victim of sex trafficking.
In another of postal serviceEpstein tells columnist and writer Michael Wolff that Trump “knew about the girls because he asked Ghislaine to stop.” Following the dissemination of these correspondences, the White House accused Democrats of “creating a false narrative to defame the president.”
In September, Congress released another batch of files that included more than 33,000 pageswhich had been given to him by the Department of Justice in an attempt at transparency by the Trump Administration, although the measure did not work because most of them had already been made public previously.
Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on charges of sexual abuse and trafficking of dozens of children in the early 2000s. The billionaire once rubbed shoulders with personalities such as Prince Andrew of England – brother of Charles III -, Bill Clinton and current President Donald Trump. He was discovered hanged in his cell.
Maxwell was declared culpable in December 2021 on two counts of sex trafficking of a minor, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and three counts related to conspiracy.
In a letter to the judge, his attorney, David Markus, reported last week that Maxwell plans to file a request to review the 20-year sentence he is serving in Texas.
