José Manuel Pureza, who heads motion A at the XIV National Convention of BE, considered this Saturday, November 29th, that the party “has to change to grow” and defended “all dialogues” so that the left can regain initiative and strength.
“There have been so many predictions of disappearances, they have never been fulfilled. The Bloc is a party that has strength. It’s in a difficult situation, it’s obvious, it has to change to grow, it’s clear”, said Pureza upon arrival of the main meeting that starts this Saturday in Lisbon and marks the farewell of Mariana Mortágua from the party leadership.
The former vice-president of Parliament anticipated two days of discussion about “paths and ways to gain strength”, but above all about the party being at “the service of the struggles of those who do not have power and of those who are being attacked by the extreme right, by the extreme right”.
“We must have the ability, with intelligence, with humility, to do all the dialogues that are necessary for the left to regain initiative and regain strength in our country. The Bloc has this in its DNA and will seek to fulfill it”, he assured.
Another of the bases for his eventual leadership, according to Pureza, is the need for BE to “change procedures and the organization’s culture”.
“We have to be an organization with a much greater capacity for involvement, much greater capacity to treat militancy well, to encourage militancy. This is absolutely fundamental and we have to organize ourselves for this and I think there is a unanimous desire in this regard”, he emphasized.
The XIV National Convention of BE kicked off this Saturday, in Lisbon, with the opening speech by Mariana Mortágua, who says goodbye to the coordination, after two years of a mandate marked by the party’s electoral decline.
