Central Court of Criminal Instruction decided to change the measure of coercion of a woman who was part of an organized group dedicated to helping illegal immigration to preventive detention, as she continued to mediate the fraudulent sale of immigrant registrations in the National Health System (SNS), according to a statement from the Judiciary Police released this Wednesday, December 10.

The suspect, who was subject to the coercive measure of obligation to remain in the home with electronic surveillance, had been arrested in May, for intermediating the fraudulent sale of immigrant registrations in the SNS, with the collaboration of two employees of a Family Health Unit, who were arrested in November.

These two administrative employees have been suspended from their duties and are suspected of assigning more than 10,000 SNS user numbers.

According to the PJ, as part of the “Gambérria” operation, 16 people have already been arrested and 27 defendants have been charged, including seven businessmen, a lawyer and an employee of the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
