The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo and Braga are this Monday, December 8, under orange warning, the second most serious level, due to strong maritime unrest, reported the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

These IPMA warnings are in effect from 6:00 pm this Monday and continue until 3:00 pm on Tuesday and are justified by the forecast of waves in the western quadrant measuring 5 to 5.5 meters, with a maximum height of 10 meters.

The IPMA also placed the districts of Faro and Setúbal under yellow warning, between 18:00 this Monday and 06:00 Wednesday, and, between 15:00 this Monday and 06:00 Wednesday, the district of Lisbon due to strong sea agitation, with waves expected from the western quadrant measuring 4 to 5 meters.

Also under yellow warning, the least serious of the three levels, is the north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo, between 15:00 this Monday and 00:00 Wednesday, also due to maritime unrest.

On Tuesday, the districts of Viseu, Évora, Faro, Vila Real and Setúbal are under yellow warning. Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre, the south coast of Madeira, Porto Santo and the mountainous regions of the archipelago due to periods of rain, sometimes heavy.

The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” and yellow, when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.
