María Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition, is already in Oslo, Norway, where she gave a press conference this Thursday, December 11th, one day after her daughter Ana received the Nobel Peace Prize.

After leaving Venezuela on a speedboat on Tuesday and taking a plane from the island of Curaçao to Norway, Corina Machado explained that this trip was made in the utmost secrecy because Nicolás Maduro’s regime did “everything possible” to prevent his departure from the country. She is convinced that the Venezuelan authorities did not know where she was hiding until now and, therefore, she thanked “all the men and women who risked their lives” so that she could be in Oslo. “It was an experience, but it was worth it to be here and tell the world what is happening in Venezuela”these.

The 58-year-old Venezuelan opponent regretted not being able to be present at the ceremony, due to the secret operation that involved her trip, but assumed that the Nobel awarded to her through her daughter has “a profound meaning”, because “it reminds the world that democracy is essential for peace”.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner showed in Oslo all her strength and determination in the fight against the Maduro regime. “I am very hopeful that Venezuela will be free and we will be able to transform it into a beacon of freedom”said the Nobel Peace Prize winner, who left a certainty in her speech: “We will restore democracy. We will not stop until this becomes a reality.”

The opposition leader outlined the objective of “turning Venezuela into a democratic and economic center of the Americas”. “I look forward to that day and we will welcome everyone to a brilliant, democratic and free country. This will happen soon”, he promised.

María Corina Machado promised that she will take her Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuela, where she says she will return in the next few days, despite the threat of arrest hanging over her. “This is a turning point in the country’s history. Venezuelans feel that the world is with them”, he highlighted.
