Venezuela announces the release in the next few hours of “a significant number” of political prisoners, among them Spaniards

The president of the Venezuelan Parliament and Chavismo’s chief negotiator, Jorge Rodríguez, announced this Thursday the release in the next few hours of “a significant number” of political prisoners, which includes Venezuelans and foreigners, including several Spaniards – without specifying the number -, as a gesture to “consolidate peace and peaceful coexistence” in the country.

These releases, a repeated demand by the country’s opposition, are a “gesture of peace,” Rodríguez reiterated, adding that the action was unilateral and not agreed upon with any other party.

“The Bolivarian Government, together with State institutions, has decided to release a significant number of Venezuelans and foreigners, and these liberation processes are taking place from this very moment,” Rodríguez added.
