According to local reports the crash took place at the Monte Moro mountain station, about 2,800 meters above sea level.

It is believed the crash occurred because the cabin, heading towards mountains, arrived at the station too quickly.

Emergency crews including fire fighters and police are working to evacuate around 100 people, including children from the area.

The injured pair were immediately treated by a doctor who happened to be in the area, local media reports.

An air ambulance is set to transport them to hospital for treatment.

Their conditions are not reported to be life-threatening.

Ski slopes were closed and the ski lift was halted whilst the cable car system has been brought to a standstill.
