Two men, aged 29 and 36, were arrested at 2:50 pm this Friday, December 12, in the parish of Unhos/Apelação, on suspicion of committing the crime of vehicle theft.

The arrests took place as part of a road inspection operation on Rua de Fetais, when the driver of a car, which was later found to be stolen, “disobeyed the legal and legitimate stop order, carried out by an authority officer, and abruptly accelerated the vehicle with the clear intention of avoiding inspection”, indicates a statement sent to the newsrooms.

The officers from the PSP Motorcyclist Squad immediately began the pursuit, “with the appropriate safety distance and signaling the movement, with sound and light signals, to alert other road users, having verified that he carried out dangerous driving throughout the entire route, with dangerous maneuvers and movement in the opposite direction to that legally established on several arteries, putting other road users in danger”.

At a certain point, one of the agents managed to overtake the fleeing vehicle, managing to stop traffic in both directions and thus “forcing the immobilization of the escaping vehicle, with two of the three occupants of the vehicle abandoning it and escaping on foot, leaving the third occupant inside the vehicle”.

“Realizing in which direction the two suspects went during the escape, the police managed to intercept their driver on Estrada Militar, who, during the escape on foot, caused damage to the roof and windshield of a vehicle that was parked on the route taken by him”, continued the PSP note.

After the interception of the two suspects, “10 empty jerricans of approximately 25 liters, a hose measuring approximately two meters, a hat, gloves and some tools were found inside the stolen vehicle, material that raised suspicions of being used for another type of illicit activity, having been cautiously seized”.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to the premises of the Traffic Division to prepare the respective file, having been notified to appear at the Lisbon Small Criminal Court.
