Trump threatens Petro and warns him that he will be “the next” after Nicolás Maduro in his fight against drug trafficking

In this way, the US president puts Colombia in the crosshairs of the Operation Southern Lance which he ordered with the argument of combating drug trafficking in Latin America and which has triggered tension with the Maduro Government.

“Colombia produces a lot of drugs. They have cocaine factories. They produce cocaine and sell it directly to the United States. So
“You better wake up or you’ll be next,” he said from the Oval Office.

Along these lines, he assured that Petro “is going to have big problems if he doesn’t see reason”, reiterating that “he will be next because we don’t like people killing others.”

“I hope you are listening,” insisted the White House tenant, who has harshly criticized Gustavo Petro for his “quite hostile attitude toward the United States.”

“Drug trafficking leader”

We must remember that last September Trump removed Colombia from the list of countries that cooperate in the fight against drugs and sanctioned Petro, which he accused of being a “drug trafficking leader.”

The Colombian president has not hesitated to respond to Trump, whom he has defined as “a very uninformed man from Colombia.”

“It’s a shame because it throws away the country that knows the most about cocaine trafficking. It seems that its interlocutors are completely deceiving it,” he stated.

Petro has indicated that during his mandate there have been “1,446 combats on the ground against the mafias (…) and 13 bombings trying to locate their bosses, many with shared military intelligence.”

Furthermore, he has reported that under his government “2,700 tons of cocaine” have been seized and has pointed out “that we are going to approach 4,000 tons” of this substance in the following months of 2026, until his mandate expires in the month of August.

In this sense, Petro has boasted of “the largest seizure (of cocaine) in the history of the world.”

Since September, the US Armed Forces have destroyed more than twenty vessels supposedly loaded with drugs in the Caribbean and the Pacific, near Venezuela and Colombia, extrajudicially killing more than 80 crew members.

Trump has promised that attacks inside Venezuelan territory will begin “soon,” while Maduro has called on his citizens to unite against US threats and enlist in citizen militias.
