Trump hangs a gold-framed photo of himself with Putin from their summit in Alaska in the White House along with another with his granddaughter.

On the walls of the White House a photograph of the Russian president hangs for the first time Vladimir Putin, specifically in the recently renovated Palm Room.

The image of Donald Trump with the Russian leader, framed in gold and taken during their summit in Anchorage (Alaska) last August, caught the attention of Elizabeth Landers, the White House correspondent for PBS, American public television, who published it on her X profile.

After their meeting, Trump boasted about a photo that Putin had sent him after the Alaska summit: “I’m going to sign it for him,” he said then. “They sent me one, and I thought everyone would like to see it,” he added.

The photograph is hanging over another in which the American president appears hand in hand with his granddaughter.

In the new Palm Roomwhich was opened to the press on Tuesday for the first time since its renovation, other images have also been posted in which Trump appears with other international leaders such as the president of China, Xi Jinping, the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahuand the king Charles III of England.

The Democratic Senator Mark Warner, vice president of the Senate Intelligence Committee, ironically commented on the placement of the photo with Putin on Trump’s granddaughter.

“Putting Putin above the American people and his own family. Almost too obvious”wrote in X.

The Palm Room is a room in the White House decorated in a tropical-inspired style, with palm tree motifs, used as a social and reception space within the presidential building.

It works as a stopover and for minor events. It connects representative areas, it is used for receptions, small events and as a space to pose for official photos, something similar to a living room or gallery decorated with vegetation and elements of palm trees on walls and furniture.

It is not the first time that a portrait chosen by Trump to decorate the White House has been surrounded by controversy since his return to power.

Last September, the Republican ordered to hang the image of a signature made with an automatic pen or ‘autopen’ in the place that the portrait of his predecessor should occupy, Joe Bidenin a gallery of presidential photos in the White House.

The president has repeatedly accused Biden, without providing any evidence, of not “knowing what he was signing” during his term and to delegate to his team the signing of important documents, carried out, according to the magnate, with the help of an automatic pen, something that the Democrat has denied.
