The North American President, Donald Trump, announced this Friday, the 12th, an agreement on semiconductors that will be signed with Japan, Australia, Singapore and South Korea, within the scope of the so-called Pax Silica Initiative, aiming to boost an economic policy centered on artificial intelligence.
“Not doing this would have been a great gift to many countries, but especially to China,” Trump said in the Oval Office of the White House when he announced the deal.
According to a statement from the US State Department, the initiative aims to unite countries that host the most advanced technological companies in the world to explore the economic potential of AI, based on shared strategic assets such as computing, silicon, minerals and energy.
The Pax Silica summit, which takes place today in Washington, will also feature the participation of the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Canada and the European Union.
“Countries will explore multidimensional alliances to strengthen supply chain security, reduce coercive dependencies, protect critical infrastructure, and foster reliable technology ecosystems in areas such as semiconductors, connectivity, advanced manufacturing and energy,” the State Department added.
