The National Police Union (SINAPOL) abandoned the meeting this Friday, December 12th, between the Government and police unions, in protest at what it understood to be unequal treatment.

“SINAPOL took the floor, presented what it had to present, but presented a protest because it cannot accept that these members of the government think that we are in a caste regime, in which the unions of officers and chiefs have the primacy of sitting in front of the Secretary of State and speaking first than everyone else. SINAPOL represents more members than those unions combined. I cannot be in a room and I refused to sit at the table – I was at the back and was not part of the table – because I cannot accept that a government treats unions with favor on one side and humiliation on the other. SINAPOL is a union that represents agents, main agents, chiefs, main chiefs, commissioners, subcommissioners, intendants, super intendants, chief intendants, it cannot be the last to speak”said the president of the union, Armando Ferreira, outside the Ministry of Internal Administration.

“The way the government has approached these meetings was precisely what led us to submit a resignation request to the Prime Minister last week, to remove this authority. I have not received a response nor am I waiting for a response to be given to me. SINAPOL represents police professionals and cannot accept that these professionals are humiliated and dishonored by anyone”continued the leader, who does not rule out protest actions soon.
