Serbian president accused of involvement in sick Sarajevo ‘human safaris’

BOMBSHELL footage has emerged of Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić allegedly holding a sniper rifle at one of the vantage points for the vile “human safaris” in Sarajevo.

Vučić, Serbia’s leader since 2017, is now facing mounting evidence that he joined the sick outings where wealthy foreign tourists allegedly paid to shoot at Sarajevo civilians during the brutal four-year Bosnian Serb siege.

Between 1992 and 1996, more than 10,000 people were killed by shelling and sniper fire in what became the longest siege of a capital city in modern warfare.

Now prosecutors in Milan have launched a probe into moneyed sickos who allegedly forked out £70,000 to £88,000 for the grim thrill, with even higher prices said to have been charged to target children.

The shocking findings of Milan-based investigative journalist Ezio Gavazzeni made global headlines as the horror of the allegations was digested.

Brits were allegedly among the blood-sport tourists, which were previously described as wealthy “far-right” figures and gun enthusiasts mainly from Italy.

He told The World: “The clients came from many countries: they were Italian, German, French, English, Spanish, American, or Canadian.

“Why did no country ever launch an investigation? Maybe because they were powerful, wealthy, and socially influential individuals.”

Croatian journalist Domagoj Margetić has now filed a complaint claiming Vučić both took part in and helped organise the sniper trips, accusations the president has repeatedly denied.

Serbian lawyer Čedomir Stojković has backed the claims and is urging magistrates in Belgrade to open their own investigation into the alleged sniper tourism scandal.

In his letter to Milan prosecutors, Margetić points to a 1993 video he says shows Vučić holding a sniper rifle among armed fighters.

He claims the group was based at the Jewish cemetery, a hillside frontline used by Serbian snipers to target Sarajevo below.

But Vučić has hit back, insisting the object in the footage was an umbrella and dismissing the claims as nonsense.

Margetić also alleges Vučić served as a “war volunteer” in 1992–93, saying he was part of the New Sarajevo Chetnik Detachment under commander Slavko Aleksić.

As evidence, he cites a snippet from a reported 1994 interview in Duga magazine in which Vučić is said to have admitted volunteering in “Serbian Sarajevo” at the start of the Bosnian war.

Vučić said: “When the war in Bosnia began, I went to Serbian Sarajevo and signed up as a volunteer.

“I was not a member of the party, I simply went. I knew some friends and that’s why I went to defend [the Serbians].”

Vučić adds that he spent time at the Jewish cemetery where he is allegedly seen in footage alongside armed men.

Margetić also points to testimony from Vojislav Šešelj, founder of the hard-right Serbian Radical Party, who told The Hague in 2013 that Vučić was part of a Serb military detachment in Sarajevo.

Court summaries from the SENSE Transitional Justice Centre note that Hague prosecutors found “ample evidence” that Slavko Aleksić commanded an SRS volunteer unit operating from the cemetery between 1992 and 1993.

The journalist’s letter further cites Bosnia’s defence minister Zukan Helez, who says VRS fighters told him they witnessed Vučić firing on Sarajevo civilians from that same frontline.

Vučić has repeatedly rejected all accusations, insisting he never fired a shot and was working as a journalist in Pale, 11 miles away, during the early 1990s.

Mr Helez has slammed Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s denials.

He told The Sarajevo Times: “His excuse that he was holding an umbrella, not a rifle, in footage from the Sarajevo frontline is a blatant lie.”

He added that three former VRS soldiers recently admitted they were at the Jewish cemetery at the same time as Vucic, and that the Serbian leader was firing on Sarajevo residents with a sniper rifle.

In a scathing letter, Mr Margetić claims Vučić didn’t just watch the “safaris” but helped run them.

He allegedly acted as translator between foreign hunters and Serbian forces.

Mr Stojković, a Serbian lawyer, wrote on Facebook: “There is more and more evidence that Aleksandar Vucic was part of the “Sniper safari” during the siege of Sarajevo,

“Vučić absolutely certainly knew what was going on, and he was a part of it, one way or another.”
