The 31st edition of the São Silvestre do Porto race, on Sunday, December 28, will require traffic and parking restrictions in the city, especially downtown, and the deactivation of bus stops, the municipality warned.
On its official website, the Porto City Council advises that on the day of the event, which includes a five-kilometer walk and a 10-kilometer run, starting and ending on Avenida dos Aliados, the population removes their vehicles from prohibited areas.
Thus, on Sunday, between 00:00 and 22:00 there will be parking restrictions in Praça do General Humberto Delgado and Rua de Camões, and from 09:00 to 22:00 traffic will be closed in Praça do General Humberto Delgado, Avenida dos Aliados, Rua do Dr. António Luís Gomes, Praça da Trindade and Rua da Trindade.
From 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, traffic will also be closed at Praça da Liberdade, Praça da Trindade, Rua do Clube dos Fenianos, Rua do Dr. Magalhães Lemos and Rua de Elísio de Melo.
Traffic will be in one direction (north-south) on Rua do Almada, Rua de José Falcão and Praça de Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, while traffic on Rua de Sá da Bandeira and Rua Formosa will only be in a south-north direction between 2pm and 10pm
The Almadas Tunnel will be completely closed from 2pm to 10pm and the same will happen in the vicinity of Praça da Liberdade, Praça Almeida Garrett, Passeio das Fontainhas, Rua da Alegria, Rua Damião de Góis, the Viaduto de Gonçalo Cristóvão, in areas of Avenida da Boavista, Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, among other arteries of the city.
The municipality also highlights that during the period of traffic conditioning with total road closures in the streets through which the 31st Lidl São Silvestre Cidade do Porto passes, STCP and interurban operators’ stops located in those areas will be deactivated.
Access to car parks located on the route may also be restricted.
The 31st São Silvestre has 18 thousand registrations, 14 thousand in the 10 kilometer run and four thousand in the five kilometer walk.
