At least 22 people remain missing after the Russian air strike against the city of Ternopil, in western Ukraine, which killed 26 people and injured more than 90, the Ukrainian president said this Thursday, November 20. Among the fatalities were three children, said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian head of state said this morning that rescuers worked throughout the night in Ternopil and that search and rescue operations were still ongoing, following the attack that occurred on Wednesday (19).
Twenty-two people are still missing, said the head of state in a message posted on social media, noting that more than 200 rescuers were sent to the Ukrainian city. “The effort to find them continues”, he assured.
The Ukrainian president admitted, however, the difficulty that operatives are facing due to the destruction caused by Moscow’s offensive. “In some areas, work can only be done manually due to the serious destruction and fragmentation of structures,” he said.
In the message released, the head of state expressed himself “grateful” for the professionals who have been working in Ternopil “for almost 24 hours straight”. “Rescuers, medical teams, police – my thanks to each and every one of you”, he said.
“It is essential that, in such difficult days, despite all the attacks and terror from Russia, our people always know that they can count on rescue and assistance”reads the note shared on social media, where Zelensky published a video showing the work of rescuers in the search and rescue operation.
