A head of the Public Security Police (PSP), who worked in a specific domestic violence unit, will be tried for 14 crimes, including aggravated domestic violence, threats and harm to physical integrity, women and in-laws.

The criminal investigation judge of Leiria dismissed the allegation of partial nullity of the investigation raised by the defendant as unfounded and pronounced it “due to the facts and legal qualifications contained in the accusation brought by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP)”according to the instructional decision dated the 8th and to which the Lusa agency now had access.

The head of the PSP will be tried in a collective court for a crime of aggravated domestic violence, nine crimes of aggravated threat, three crimes of introduction into a place closed to the public and a crime of harm to physical integrity, of which the woman, with whom she has a minor child, and her in-laws were victims.

The defendant, aged 41, who worked at a police station in Lisbon, will continue to await the development of the case subject to the coercion measure requiring him to remain in his home with electronic surveillance.

According to the indictment, the woman was subjected to repeated psychological abuse, and to feelings of terror and humiliation on the part of the defendant, living in constant fear, as she fears that he will kill her and her parents.

The MP added that the victim, from the beginning of the relationship, endured that he controlled her, used expressions that humiliated and belittled her, and even beat her.

Describing, among others, situations in which death threats were made to the woman and her parents, the MP reported that on one occasion when the victim started recording with her cell phone for her protection, the defendant hit her several times, stepped on her feet and cut her nails into her ear, resulting in the victim needing to receive hospital treatment.

Still according to the MP’s final order, when the woman told him that the behavior included domestic violence, the defendant referred to prosecutors who were on shift, wanting to demonstrate that there was no point in filing a complaint, maintaining a feeling of impunity towards her and abusing the professional position he had to condition her.

The MP added that, due to the defendant’s behavior, which is repeated and current, the victims “live in a climate of terror”, as they fear that he could carry out the death announcements he made to them.

In March, the defendant’s wife filed a complaint at the PSP station in Nazaré, and the defendant was arrested in Lisbon by members of this police force from Leiria.

At the time, the PSP made “the precautionary seizure of weapons that the suspect had, a service weapon, an extendable baton and a personal weapon”.

The prosecution described that when members of the PSP went to the couple’s house to collect the weapons they had, as they were on psychiatric leave, they refused and threatened the woman again.

“Even if they carry weapons, there are always bladed weapons, knives!”indicated the Public Ministry.

“I’m going to kill myself, but I’m not going alone”he added.

In September, the PSP informed Lusa that, “by order of March 20, 2025, it was determined to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the aforementioned police element”, a process that is in the Lisbon Metropolitan Police Command (Cometlis) and is awaiting a court decision.
