This Sunday, December 28, the President of the Republic promulgated the creation of high-performance centers in the area of obstetrics and gynecology, hoping that it will allow for “systematic and lasting” responses and that “minimum consensus” in terms of employment will become a reality.
Numa note published on the official page of the Presidency of the RepublicMarcelo Rebelo de Sousa gives the green light to the Government’s proposal for the creation, on an experimental basis, of High Performance Centers in the area of Obstetrics and Gynecology (CED-ObGin), within the scope of the National Health Service, but left warnings.
The head of state hopes that “the minimum consensus invoked in working conditions effectively corresponds to reality”.
On the other hand, according to the same note of the promulgation, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also has the expectation that the solution now found, “already careful and tentative”, “will be able to be more than a short-term resource and open up systematic and lasting perspectives”.
On November 5, the Council of Ministers approved the final version of the diploma for high-performance obstetrics and gynecology centers, which had already gone to a Government meeting at the end of October.
According to the statement, the High Performance Centers in the area of Obstetrics and Gynecology (CED-ObGin) will function as “autonomous management structures based on an innovative model, with a view to reinforcing the attractiveness and retention of professionals”.
The Government announced that will start operating in 2026 on an experimental basis.
With the creation of these centers, the Ministry of Health intends to guarantee a list of “highly differentiated services, training, research” in the SNS and to ensure that “professionals, when they finish their internship, want to stay” in the public service, but also that “some may even be interested in returning”, said Ana Paula Martins.
