The Portuguese cellist, currently a musician with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, will take up duties in Annaberg for the 2026-2027 season from September next year.

In a post on the Erzgebirgische Theater’s social media, it is noted that the “internationally acclaimed Portuguese conductor and cellist brings extensive experience in opera, concert and contemporary music”, having collaborated with several world-renowned orchestras and soloists.

“With your artistic versatility and passion, you will significantly shape our musical work in the coming seasons. Welcome to the Erzgebirge, Bruno!”, the message concludes.

In the same statement released today, it is recalled that Borralhinho’s next concert will be the New Year’s Concert, on January 1st, at the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra.

Borralhinho is artistic director of Ensemble Mediterrain, the Júlio Cardona International Music Competition and musical director of Beyra – Ensemble Orquestral da Beira, according to the biography on his own website.

Born in Covilhã, in the Castelo Branco district, he studied at the Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior, before completing a degree and postgraduate degree at the University of Arts in Berlin. He completed his training in Oslo with the Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk.

Later, he completed a master’s degree in Cultural Management in Barcelona and a PhD in Humanities at the Carlos III University, in Madrid, with work on “the relations between power and the field of classical music in Portugal throughout the 20th century”.

Several times awarded, he has recorded multiple albums with international labels, such as Naxos, for which he recorded an album dedicated to Fernando Lopes-Graça with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
