The Government of the Republic assured the Madeiran executive that the situation at the Port of Leixões, which affects the supply of the autonomous regions, should be resolved this Friday, 26th.
On Thursday, the Regional Government of Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP) asked the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, to find an urgent solution to unblock the dispatch and entry of cargo onto ships in the port of Leixões, warning that a rupture in the supply chain could be at stake.
However, on Thursday night, the Regional Secretariat for the Economy of Madeira issued a statement, adding that the ministers of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, assured the situation would be resolved by this morning.
“In the conversations that José Manuel Rodrigues [secretário regional da Economia] had this afternoon with the two government officials, it was emphasized that the Government of the Republic is making every effort to ensure that Madeira and the Azores are not harmed by the constraints occurring in the port of Leixões, due to the introduction of a new computer system that is delaying the dispatch and entry of containers”, the note reads.
In the message sent to Luís Montenegro on Thursday, the Madeiran government warned of the negative impact of the entry into force of the new computer system that is blocking the customs clearance of goods, highlighting that, if the situation is not resolved by this morning, “there will be serious problems in the transport of goods to Madeira and the Azores”.
