An airline Boeing 737 low-cost British Jet2 made an emergency landing, on the morning of Wednesday, December 17th, at Faro airport due to a technical problem.

The Flight Radar website, which shows the route of the plane that connected London to Fuerteventura, in the Spanish Canary Islands, indicates that the device turned back after it had already flown over Portuguese territory, to land at Faro airport, where at 11:40 am it was still there.

A source from the district command of the Algarve National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) told Lusa that “the alert was given by the aircraft commander at 10:24 am”, which landed “safely at 10:47 am”.

As is usual in these circumstances of technical problems, Faro airport was on high alert until the safe landing of the Jet2 plane, with 179 people on board.

“In light of the commander’s declaration of emergency, the Prior Intervention Plan for Gago Coutinho airport was activated, at its red level, a preventive plan that defines and mobilizes various Civil Protection means”, revealed the same source to Lusa, adding that 94 operational personnel were mobilized with the support of 41 vehicles.
