The band The Cure confirmed this Friday, December 26, 2025, the death of their longtime guitarist and keyboardist, Perry Bamonte. The musician, affectionately nicknamed “Teddy” by colleagues and fans, died at the age of 65 on Christmas Day, December 25, in his home.

In an official statement shared on social media, the group led by Robert Smith expressed their deep sadness, describing Bamonte as a “calm, intense, intuitive, constant and enormously creative” figure. The band also revealed that the departure was due to a “brief illness”.

Bamonte’s history with The Cure began in 1984, initially as a guitar technician, but his transition to official member occurred in 1990. He was a fundamental piece on albums of enormous commercial and critical success, such as Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996) e Bloodflowers (2000).

Despite leaving the group in 2005, his contribution was immortalized in 2019, when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the band. Perry Bamonte ended up returning to The Cure in 2022 for the tour Shows of a Lost Worldhaving performed his last concert in London, on November 1, 2024.
