The Government reduced the discount applied to the Tax on Petroleum and Energy Products (ISP), recovering part of the decrease that had slowed fuel prices and generating additional revenue estimated at 190 million euros, according to Público’s accounts.
An ordinance published on Friday night in Diário da República, which came into force on Monday, increases the ISP rate on the continent for unleaded gasoline — from 481.26 euros to 497.52 euros per 1,000 liters — and for road diesel — from 337.21 euros to 361.60 euros per 1,000 liters. The change partially cancels the reduction that had been applied in recent days.
The Executive says that the measure remains “in line with the recommendations of the European Commission”, towards the gradual elimination, “as the evolution of the energy market allows”, of measures of an “exceptional and temporary nature” adopted to mitigate the impact of the covid-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“In this context, this ordinance proceeds with the partial reversal of extraordinary and temporary measures, updating the ISP unit rates on gasoline and diesel, promoting the indispensable gradual reversal of the temporary measures adopted within the ISP”, states the diploma.
