The PAN Congress on December 20th will have two lists in competition. Carolina Pia met the requirements and will be an alternative to Inês de Sousa Real, although without delegate representation. The Law graduate goes to the vote, but guarantees the position she had already expressed to the DN. Its list of 40 people will not be present at the congress in Coimbra.

“We are not going to be at a congress that violates the party’s own statutes”, he points out, complaining that the “candidacy was accepted after a sequence of irregularities”. “There was an attempt to invalidate the application, they took a long time to provide information regarding the fees and to validate the names of people who had already paid the annual fees. Possibly, they now realized that it was preferable to have an opposition list so that later Inês Sousa Real could say that she won with a large majority“, harshly criticizes Carolina Pia, from the Viseu district, who is now considered inactive, after the young woman’s dismissal, in disagreement with Sousa Real.

To DN, Inês de Sousa Real mentioned, last week, that “the Political Commissions, and not the Assemblies, are responsible for organizing the election of representatives to the National Congress.” Even so, he recalled that “in regions where there is a municipal political committee, these members will be represented”. The example of Famalicão is, therefore, nonsense for Pia. “These legal interpretations do not adjust to reality. This is a violation of statutes, because it is an exception that has not been made for other councils”, he criticizes.

Pia’s candidacy “is presented” because she believes that “there will have to be another congress”. Since November 18, the Constitutional Court has had claims in hand. So far, three requests for objection have been made. One week before the event, it is difficult to believe that it can be cancelled. However, the results, has posteriorican, of course, be contradicted. This is the only hope for Inês de Sousa Real’s opposition.

The current spokesperson will be re-elected. Only the list headed by the current leader presented delegates, accumulating a total of 54, in Lisbon, and 39, in Porto, between effective and substitutes. With Lisbon and Porto being the party’s two main constituencies, it would always be predictable that Sousa Real would remain in the PAN’s top post, which he has held since 2021, as there are districts that are without direct or indirect representation, which further capitalizes on the importance of large urban centers.
