Comedian Nuno Markl returned this Wednesday, November 26th, to his daily section The Man Who Bit the Dogon Rádio Comercialgoing live from Egas Moniz Hospital, where he is recovering from a stroke suffered last Thursday.

Markl, 54, went live and began by warning that he is “very emotional” and that, as a result, he cries “for everything and nothing.” The comedian assured that he was “much better” and “relearning how to do a series of things, including walking” after the stroke he suffered. With some humor, he reported that “the nurses are scared” because he “starts walking at a speed they can’t keep up with.”

Furthermore, he revealed that he is “feeling” and “controlling” his hand again: “The left side of my body has gone on vacation and has been slowly waking up.”

He then thanked him for the countless messages he has received. “I burst into tears”, he stressed, praising the work of the doctors in response to former television presenter Gustavo Santos, who in a video he published on social media criticized Nuno Markl’s lifestyle.

“The reason why I’m here talking to you is because there are doctors, medicine and science. And, therefore, don’t pay attention to imbeciles, don’t give them a stage, call the people who studied for this, who are incredible… I only have wonderful things to say about the doctors at Egas Moniz and São Francisco Xavier, where I was hospitalized before. And the nurses have been extraordinary people”, said Nuno Markl, also appealing to people to find out about what stroke is, which “it can happen to anyone”.

The comedian then told an episode about the postponement of the show Xmas In The Night which was scheduled for December 6th at the MEO Arena, but due to his illness it was postponed to December 19th of next year. “I had seen that it had been postponed and I asked the doctor if on December 19th I would be in a position to do that. And the doctor said: ‘Calm down, it’s next year’. And I replied: ‘Ah, I forgot to check that detail’. I had already thought that I would be in a wheelchair.”

Markl also made a point of praising the role of his son Pedro. “If it weren’t for him I wouldn’t be here”, he began by saying before telling details, in a good-humored way, of what happened. “It was the most depressing thing that could happen to me because I was pooping. It’s not a decent place to have a stroke. I realized that I couldn’t get up from the toilet and I couldn’t move, so I painfully dragged myself to the bathroom floor. And then I thought ‘maybe I’d better call my son’. I didn’t want to scare him, but it sounded like a drunk talking. And the coolness he kept throughout the whole situation, the way he said it as soon as he called to 112. He described very calmly what was happening to me and, worried about me and my head, that it was very low and whether I needed a pillow…”

Nuno Markl also said that, at the time, he realized that he had to “let go of some things, namely his dignity”, especially at “a moment when the firefighter says to his colleague ‘we have incontinence’ and I try to explain, calmly, ‘I was sitting on the toilet, I’m not incontinent’…” “Everything that happened is human. I don’t know how many people have seen me naked since this happened”, he added, revealing that this whole process “is being a collection of stories very funny tragic-comics”.

After revealing the good mood of the firefighter who assisted him when he said ‘Calm down, calm down, it’s a toothache’, Nuno Markl thanked all the messages he has received and those who have supported him. “It has been wonderful to see the friendship and love that is in the air”, he concluded, visibly moved.
