This Tuesday, December 16th, Iscte inaugurates a university residence in Odivelas with support from the municipality and the result of a 9.5 million euro requalification, which creates 204 beds and integrates spaces for teaching and research in the Odivelas Monastery.
The project aims to reinforce students’ academic experience and strengthen the connection between the institution and the local community.
The agreement between Iscte and the Chamber provides for the organization of municipal internships for students, the creation of a grant for research projects that respond to the needs of the municipality and the provision of training for chamber employees.
Seminars and workshops on municipal management and local development are also scheduled, aiming to articulate scientific production and municipal practices.
The intervention in the former Odivelas Institute began in November 2023 and was largely financed by the PRR (7.6 million euros, plus VAT).
The transfer of the property by the Chamber to Iscte lasts for 50 years. The residence has 100 single rooms and 52 double rooms; Half of the beds are already operational, with occupancy expected to increase until the end of the academic year and full operation expected at the beginning of 2026-2027.
In the summer months, when academic activity decreases, the space will also serve to welcome other audiences, such as athletes participating in municipal sports programs.
The inauguration, scheduled for today, will feature interventions by the rector Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues and the president of the Chamber of Odivelas, Hugo Martins.
