Trade, retail and catering union and association signed on December 11th a collective employment contract (CCT) that will cover around 30,000 workers and 200 employers and will come into force on January 1st.

The CCT signed by the Independent Commerce and Services Union (SICOS) and the Association of Retail and Catering Brands (AMRR) introduces a birth subsidy of 150 euros for each child born or adopted, automatic promotions based on seniority and increased vacations based on attendance, up to three more days per year.

“This collective contract is a historic achievement that benefits all stakeholders: workers, companies and the sector as a whole. It reinforces professional dignity, promotes fairer and more sustainable labor relations, and creates conditions for productivity with more balance and recognition”, said the president of SICOS, Fernando Paulo dos Santos, in a statement.

The contract also provides for the updating of salary tables, with transversal appreciation of professional categories and the increase in overtime work.

“With this agreement, we send a clear signal of social responsibility and appreciation of our teams. Companies need stability and predictability, and this CCT ensures both”, adds the president of AMRR, Miguel Pina Martins.

The new contract establishes a minimum period of validity of three years, with annual review of salary tables and effects in mainland Portugal.
