The Madeira Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC) recorded a total of 185 incidents related to adverse weather conditions in this region until 12pm this Saturday.

In the information provided, the SRPC states that these situations involved 422 operational and 192 technical means.

Of these incidents, 107 were tree falls, five mass movements, 15 preventive risk reduction actions, 12 danger signs, 16 falls of construction elements, 19 falls of electrical networks, three falls of temporary structures and eight removals of elements in danger of falling.

It also states that 54 of these incidents were in the municipality of Funchal, followed by Santa Cruz (37), Machico (34), Calheta (16), Ribeira Brava (14), Câmara de Lobos (11), Santana (5), Porto Santo (4), Porto Moniz (4), São Vicente (4) and Ponta do Sol (2).

Civil Protection mentions that “all incidents were promptly resolved at the municipal level”.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the north coast of the island of Madeira and Porto Santo under red warning (the most serious) due to strong maritime unrest until 3pm today.

The situation of heavy precipitation and wind placed Madeira under an orange warning until Sunday.

The Madeira archipelago is being affected by the Emília depression, with strong winds, snowfall and rain, which can be occasionally heavy.

Football games postponed

The game between Marítimo and Benfica B, scheduled for this Saturday and counting for the 14th round of the II League, was postponed to a date to be announced in the next few hours, “due to the impossibility of flights to Madeira”, informed Liga Portugal.

The Portuguese Football Federation also indicated in its schedule that the game between Marítimo and Valadares Gaia, in the round of 16 of the Portuguese Women’s Cup, was postponed when it was supposed to be played from 3 pm.

These postponements follow the clash between Nacional and Tondela, which was supposed to be played today and was rescheduled for Monday, at 5:30 pm, in a match on the 14th round of the I League.

Adverse weather conditions at Madeira airport forced the cancellation of the flight of the team from Tondela, with the departure initially scheduled for 3:30 pm this Saturday.

More than half of the flights scheduled at Madeira airport on Friday were canceled due to bad weather, which included precipitation, strong winds and rough seas.
