The Brazilian ambassador in Lisbon, Raimundo Carreiro, received the response to the request for clarification sent to the Government of Portugal regarding the case of the Brazilian child who had his fingertips amputated at school. According to a statement sent to newsrooms this Friday, November 21, the Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, guaranteed “the protection and safeguarding of the interests of all those involved, in particular those of the victim and his family”.
The Government representative also reiterated to the ambassador what had already been reported a few days ago: what the General Inspectorate of Education and Science ordered the opening of an investigation process. “All facts will be duly investigated,” he added.
The minister also highlighted to the representative of the Brazilian Government in Portugal the “commitment of the Public School to the safety, well-being and integrity of all its students”. It is precisely this behavior of the school that the mother questions in this case. According to Nívia Estevam, her son had already been a victim of other violence in the school environment, but no measures had been taken.

The ambassador’s request for explanations was sent on November 18, “requesting information about the measures being taken in relation to the case, as well as its developments”. In addition to the Ministry of Education, the document was also sent to the Ministry of Internal Administration, responsible for the Public Security Police (PSP). The statement sent by the diplomatic department does not mention any response from this ministry, headed by Maria Lúcia Amaral.
The embassy emphasizes that the case continues to be monitored. “The Brazilian Government and the Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon continue to monitor developments in the case“, highlights the note. The incident occurred on November 10, at the Souselo School Group, in Cinfães.
