Messi fever has gripped Kolkata, the city of Joy and this was evident from the fact as a newly wed couple in Kolkata postponed their honeymoon just to catch a glimpse of the Argentia football star. Lionel Messi arrival in Kolkata as part of his GOAT India Tour 2025 sparked a huge wave of celebrations and excitement among the fans and triggered scenes of jubilation. Amid this, a story of a couple has gone viral on social media who shared that they had cancelled their honeymoon just so they could see Messi.

“We recently got married, but on Messi’s visit, we cancelled our honeymoon plan because first we wanted to see Messi,” a fan told news agency ANI. “We have been following him for 10–12 years and are very excited to see him.”

Couple cancels honeymoon to meet Messi

“Last Friday we got married, and we cancelled our honeymoon plan because Messi is coming as this is important… We have been following him since 2010…’,” a woman told ANI.
In another video, the news agency tweeted, a man revealed, “We recently got married, but on Messi’s visit, we cancelled our honeymoon plan because first we wanted to see Messi… We are very excited to see him, and we have been following him for 10-12 years.”

The couple tied the knot just a week ago on December 5. Initially, they had plans to go on a honeymoon, but cancelled it after knowing about Messi’s event. The husband shared that watching the GOAT player is a “more important event” than a honeymoon.
An ecstatic fan shared their admiration for the footballer, saying, “I have loved Messi since 2007… ‘Mohabbat hai’… In 2026, we will get the World Cup again. Argentina will be the champion.”

Lionel Messi in Kolkata

Thousands of fans braved the December chill, lining up outside Salt Lake Stadium for the first leg of Messi’s three-day, four-city GOAT India Tour 2025. Messi’s flight touched down at 2:26am, with supporters filling Gate 4, waving Argentina flags, beating drums and chanting his name. Messi arrived with long-time strike partner Luis Suárez and Argentina teammate Rodrigo De Paul. Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan will join the programmes in Kolkata, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other dignitaries invited.
Messi would attend a tribute programme in Salt Lake Stadium, featuring music, dance and an exhibition match between Mohun Bagan ‘Messi’ All Stars and Diamond Harbour ‘Messi’ All Stars. Messi will fly to Hyderabad from Kolkata for the evening leg of the tour. The next part of his tour includes a visit to Mumbai for an event at the Wankhede Stadium. The tour’s final stop is Delhi, where Messi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
