Asked whether the North American peace plan constitutes a betrayal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa replied that “no, it is not treason”, focusing instead on Europe’s position.
“What I think is that, on the part of Europe and on the part of the European countries that have always expressed their solidarity, it is one thing to want peace, it is another thing to want peace at the cost of Ukraine’s surrender”he concluded.
This Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, also criticized the proposal presented by the United States to end the war in Ukraine for having been made without prior consultation with the authorities in Kiev.
This proposal “should result from a prior hearing with Ukraine, which was not done. This is an aspect that we, obviously, criticize”, said the head of Portuguese diplomacy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this Friday that he refuses to betray the nation and announced that he will propose alternatives to the United States’ plan for the conflict with Russia, which involves territorial concessions to Moscow.
