Filipa César, an artist who critically analyzes the Portuguese colonial past, will be the subject of an anthology in the exhibition Meteorizations, from January to May 2026.
Between February and May there will be an exhibition of works by Joan Miró, with works from the Miró Collection of the Portuguese State and the Serralves Collection. Elective Affinities It is curated by Robert Lubar and puts the Catalan artist’s works in dialogue with those of other artists, such as Helena Almeida, Paula Rego, Blinky Palermo and Robert Morris.
In the cinema area, Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira will present a retrospective dedicated to Miguel Gomes, the director of Tabu, The Thousand and One Nights e Grand Toura film that won him the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. “The exhibition, the first entirely dedicated to the filmmaker, focuses on his unique filmmaking process, through photographs, shooting sequences and a vast collection of unpublished materials, accompanied by a comprehensive retrospective of his work and a new short film commissioned specifically for the occasion”, explains Serralves.
A catalog of the director’s work and a book with the filmmaker’s essays and film reviews will be published.
At the end of the exhibition, Miguel Gomes’ next feature film will be shown, Savagery.
Between March 2026 and September 2027 it will also be possible to see it at Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira and Portuguese Cinema III, the third in a series of exhibitions dedicated to the Portuguese filmmakerfocusing on the last three decades of his career, a period in which he made around 20 films.
