The National Lok Adalat will give relief to ordinary motorists struggling with minor challans, but it will stay strict on grave offences. Online registration and tokens are compulsory for those planning to appear.
Lok Adalat 2025 Registration: How to apply online
People can follow these steps to register:
- Visit the state’s official website of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
- Select the option for online application for Lok Adalat.
- Fill in the application form and upload required documents.
- Submit the form to receive a token number via email or phone.
Cases will be taken up according to the token number. Applicants must bring all related paperwork, including original vehicle documents and challan details for traffic-related matters.
At some centres, special benches will be set up so people can walk in and clear their pending challans. Drivers should check their local court or legal authority announcements for such arrangements.
Lok Adalat token
Anyone wishing to take part must register online first. After the application, a token number and an appointment letter will be issued with the exact date and time of appearance. On the hearing day, individuals must carry the appointment letter, token, and relevant documents. Officials are advising visitors to arrive at least an hour before their slot to avoid long queues.
However, the token registration rules are not same in every court. Several Lok Adalat court also allow walk-in for settlements.
Lok Adalat December 2025: Traffic challans eligible for waiver
Minor traffic violations will qualify for reduction or waiver. These include:
- Driving without seat belt
- Riding without helmet
- Jumping red light
- Wrongly issued challan
- Over-speeding
- Not having PUC certificate
- Wrong parking
- Driving without licence
- No vehicle fitness certificate
- Driving in wrong lane
- Ignoring traffic signs
- Driving without number plate
These are the types of everyday slips that many vehicle owners have been carrying forward for years.
Lok Adalat: Challans not eligible for waiver
Serious or criminal violations will stay outside the Lok Adalat’s purview. Cases in the following categories will not be heard:
- Drunk driving
- Hit-and-run cases
- Death caused by negligent driving
- Driving by minors
- Unauthorized racing or speed trials
- Vehicles used in criminal activities
- Traffic challans pending in court cases
- Challans issued in other states
The initiative is only for minor offences and not for cases involving potential danger to life.
Lok Adalat 2025: Other disputes that can be settled
The National Lok Adalat will not limit itself to traffic matters. It will also take up civil disputes such as family-related issues, property disagreements, and other small pending court matters. Judges will listen to both sides and then pass an order to close the case. Lok Adalats function under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
