Live shows generated more box office revenue in 2024, totaling 206.4 million euros, but the price of cultural services also rose compared to 2023, revealed this Tuesday, 9th, the National Statistics Institute (INE).
According to the annual Culture statistics report, released today by INE, last year live shows, such as concerts, theater and dance, generated 206.4 million euros in box office revenue, 17.2 million euros more (9%) compared to 2023.
This revenue figure can be justified by the fact that there was a 5% increase in the number of live shows (44,941 sessions), the 8.6% increase in audience, to a total of 18.6 million spectators, and the fact that 7.6 million tickets were sold (+4.3%).
However, in 2024 the consumption of culture was more expensive, with an 8.7% increase in the price of cultural services, “with emphasis on the prices of museums, libraries and zoos (+13.5%), photographic services (+12.5%) and cinema, theater and concerts (+4.3%)”, says INE.
Still in the chapter of live shows, music was the modality that brought together the most spectators (57.8%) and box office revenue (79%) in 2024, namely pop/rock concerts, with 2,762 concerts, 4.6 million spectators and 88.4 million euros in box office revenue.
Theater was the second type with the highest number of sessions, with 35.7% of total live shows, totaling 2.3 million spectators and 23 million euros in box office revenue.
In 2024, the 4,754 museums considered by INE totaled 19.4 million visitors in 2024, an increase of 7.6% compared to 2023, but still slightly below pre-covid-19 pandemic figures, when 19.8 million entries were recorded in 2019.
Compared to 2023, cinema screening in theaters lost around 441 thousand spectators last year, for a total of 11.9 million admissions, and had a slight increase of 400 thousand euros in box office revenue for a total of 73.3 million euros.
