The president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured this Thursday that the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, will be in Washington DC next week and that he is interested in greeting her and meeting with her.

During an exclusive interview with Fox News, Trump called Machado “a good person”. He added that he would like to greet her next week in Washington DC since the Venezuelan opposition leader will be in the US capital.

The interviewer, Sean Hannity, asked the president if he would accept the Nobel Peace Prize won by María Corina Machado, who offered it to him for ordering the military operation that captured the president. Nicolas Maduroand Trump responded “it would be a great honor.”

Trump’s interest in meeting Machado next week contrasts with his first statements about the Venezuelan opposition leader after Maduro’s capture when he said he believed she was not ready to take power in Caracas and that she did not have popular support.
