Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this Wednesday, December 3, that Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted some proposals presented by United States envoys to put an end to the war in Ukraine, but that he rejected others. Still, he assured that Russia is available to meet with North American representatives whenever necessary to reach an agreement.
The meeting between Putin and Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s envoys to Moscow, lasted several hours and ended in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with a Kremlin advisor announcing that an agreement had not yet been reached.
This Wednesday morning, Peskov denied that Putin had rejected the proposals presented by the United States. “Yesterday there was, for the first time, a direct exchange of opinions. Some things were accepted, others were considered unacceptable. This is, after all, a normal working process to reach a consensus”, said Peskov, quoted by Reuters, who took the opportunity to thank Trump for his efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.
“The work is currently being carried out at the level of specialists”, highlighted the Kremlin spokesman, adding that “it is at this level of specialization that certain results must be achieved”, and it is these that “will serve as the basis for contacts at the highest level”.
In November, 28 preliminary US peace proposals were released, which alarmed Ukrainian and European authorities, who at the time advocated giving in to Moscow’s main demands. This fact led European countries to present a counterproposal and, in negotiations in Geneva, the USA and Ukraine announced that they had created an “updated and improved peace structure” to end the war.
This Tuesday, before the meeting with US envoys, Putin responded to European countries, speaking of an attempt to sabotage peace, having even launched a threat that would be ready for war if Europe so desired.
